Smallville Reunion: Brian Peterson, Kelly Souders Join Beauty and the Beast

From HollywoodReporter.com:

quote:

"Former Smallville showrunners Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders are reuniting with their former co-star, Kristin Kreuk, on the new series, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively.

Peterson and Souders will serve as co-showrunners alongside writer/exec producers Jennifer Levin and Sherri Cooper (Brothers & Sisters) on the series, which is loosely based on the 1980s CBS drama of the same name.

Kreuk starred as Lana Lang on The CW's Superman drama Smallville from 2001-09; Peterson and Souders exec produced the Tom Welling starrer from 2002 through its end in 2011."

Smallville Season 11 Comic Book Features Impulse and Expands its Universe!

smallville1-intro1_325x500

As the Smallville Season 11 comic book begins its third arc the story is about to speed up — literally. Clark Kent's old friend and teammate Bart Allen, aka the lightning-fast hero Impulse, makes his debut in the digital series in this Friday's chapter. And DC Comics has plans to expand the series, a top-selling title in both digital and print.

The new arc, "Haunted," will explore the origins of Bart's ability to run at super speed. "There's something that has been haunting Bart for some time, some baggage he's been carrying," says writer Bryan Q. Miller of the title. "Everyone in our story is being haunted — physically, metaphorically — by some element of their past."

When Bart first appeared in the TV show's fourth season episode "Run," he told Clark there was an accident and "this huge flash of light" that gave him his turbo charge. "For the first time ever we head-on address how Bart got his powers," says Miller, who was also a writer on the TV series. "Perhaps there was more to it than possibly even Bart knows."

"Haunted" will have more direct connections to the television show than Season 11's earlier stories. "It's the first time we are relying heavily on previous Smallville series history," Miller says. "This arc has many more roots in specific episodes and mythology from the series." It also continues Chloe's quest to learn more about her dopplegänger from the parallel universe of Earth 2, as well as Lex's attempts to fill in the blanks of his amnesia.

"So industrious was Lex at covering his own tracks, that he hid the information from himself," Miller says. He's been harassed by his subconscious memory of his half-sister Tess, who he killed in the TV finale just as she drugged him with a mind-erasing drug. "Tess' memories are that last bastion of him. This is his last desperate attempt to find out the man he was before the amnesia, and also to find out what she knows — that he presumably also knew — about Superman."

Smallville Season 11 is published digitally three Fridays a month (and later collected in print editions). Starting Friday, Jan. 4, a new series of parallel adventures will be published digitally on the title's off-week. The first arc, "Effigy" features a team-up with John Jones, aka the Martian Manhunter (another recurring guest star on the TV show), and Batman, who made his Smallville universe debut in Season 11's most recent storyline. "These are stories that will help fill in the rest of our world while Clark is busy on his main adventure," Miller says. "The first four off-weeks will be 'Effigy.' It gives everyone a chance to keep that Smallville machine rolling every week."

Exclusive: Lana Lang Makes Her Smallville Season 11 Comic Book Debut

130328mag-LanaLang1_300x206

She's back! Four years after last appearing on TV, Lana Lang returns to Smallville — in comic-book form. Clark Kent's first love shows up in a new arc of DC Comics digital series Smallville Season 11 on Friday, April 5.

The character — Clark Kent's first true love — last appeared in 2009, during the eighth season of the TV series. Shortly after gaining super powers (courtesy a special suit developed by Lex Luthor) she saved Metropolis by absorbing a kryptonite bomb, which essentially made her toxic to Clark. She then flew off into the proverbial sunset and out of his life. (The role was played by Kristin Kreuk, now starring in The CW's Beauty and the Beast.)

"Since then Clark has not only gotten over Lana, but he has moved on with his life. He got engaged to Lois Lane and became Superman," says Season 11 writer Bryan Q. Miller (also a veteran of the TV show's writing staff). "A lot has happened in Lana's absence."

When we catch-up with her in Season 11 she has taken a superhero alias in a crusade against African warlords. Lois goes on assignment to the Congo for the Daily Planet to investigate this mysterious vigilante, the so-called Angel of the Plateau. Given their shared romantic connections to Clark, "there's some understandable awkwardness between the two," when they reconnect in Africa, Miller says. "But they also wind up in the thick of things fairly quickly. There's some catch-up and some action and some girl power and it's a good time." Miller also teases that "we will see a villain from Smallville days past" in the second chapter.

Digital chapters of Smallville Season 11 are released each Friday (and later collected in printed editions). "Valkyrie," takes place simultaneous to this spring's main arc, "Argo," an adventure beginning April 12 that sends Superman and Booster Gold into the 31st Century to see the Legion of Superheroes. "Valkyrie" chapters will come out during breaks from "Argo." Artist Cat Staggs, who has been drawing the digital covers for the series, will handle the interior art for "Valkyrie" as well.

Wonder Woman in Smallville S11

smallville-season-11-16-mtv-geek_crop-300x168

Matt D. Wilson

Over the past year, writer Bryan Q. Miller and a rotating team of artists have been slowly building the universe of “Smallville” into its own, far-reaching superhero continuity in the “Smallville Season 11” digital-first comics series.

In August, that reach will extend a little bit further. “Smallville Season 11″ #16 will introduce one of the DC Universe’s top-tier characters into the mix, and while she may not necessarily play the role she does in the New 52, she’s sure to shake things up. I asked Miller what’s in store, and just who this character, a princess from an island, if you were wondering, is.
